In Early October friends and family came together for Aramie + Zach’s wedding at Lake Taghkanic State Park. The day started off at a local diner for the wedding day breakfast with A + Z’s close family- because what better way to start the day. I arrived at the cabins that surround the lake, where A + Z got ready and stayed for the weekend. A + Z love being outdoors and wanted a place for everyone to enjoy the nature of the Hudson Valley and be able to stay close by for the weekend of wedding adventures.
We had a lot of rain during the week proceeding the wedding day which left for a bit.. actually a lot of mud, but never once did I hear anyone complain about it. I think that sometimes we get caught focusing on all of the superficial elements of a wedding, but weddings are really about the two of you, your family and friends, your traditions, and your love- everything else doesn’t matter.. including mud.
The day was filled with so much love and support from A + Z’s family and friends. They followed many Jewish traditions but added their own personality to each. One moment of the day that remains with me is when they signed their Ketubah. In the past my couples have signed their Ketubah in private with just their chosen immediate family, and the witnesses. A + Z were surrounded by the majority of their friends and family, under a tree where they shared the moment with everyone, including their Grandmother that they FaceTimed who couldn’t attend.
During the cocktail hour, Boys to Mench played a few songs and got everyone clapping and joining along. The first dance was actually a family dance which included the young kids of the family. Instead of playing a romantic song, the family did The Floss which was a humorous moment for everyone. The night ended with an ice cream truck that had make your own ice cream sandwiches and a bonfire to join around and reflect on the day.
Important themes were selected, which were unity and community and no better words could have been chosen. I think you will see and feel the support that their friends and family provided for them on this special day. From the start, down to the ending moments conga lining out of the tent, to the bonfire for the last hoorah, A + Z were loved and supported endlessly.
